The Acekard 2i DSi version has been a favorite NDS Flash card for
some time amongst homebrew gamers and fans. In reality, the Acekard
has been popular since the days of the original Acekard and the Acekard
RPG, owners of the Acekard 2 NDS line of products have always been
satisfied with their cards just as R4 DS owners have been with theirs.
The Acekard 2i DSi is an update to the original Acekard 2 and was
release to offer complete support for the Nintendo DSi and DSi XL
consoles. And it has succeeded in doing just that.
So if you’ve got a Nintendo DS Lite, you could purchase the Acekard 2i today, and be ready for your homebrew on your Nintendo DSi or DSi XL when you upgrade. This is where the Acekard 2i excels. The fact that it works perfectly on the original Nintendo DS and the newest Nintendo DSi consoles is a fantastic feature. One that is also done by the R4i Cards and EZ Flash cards, but something that has eluded some of the other lesser known cards.
How Does The Acekard 2i Perform:
Much like the Acekard 2 before it, the Acekard 2i plugs into the NDS slot on the console itself, and once you turn on your Nintendo DS or DS lite you’ll be greeted by the newer Nintendo DSi menu system, that has the scrolling icons on the bottom of the screen, allowing you to select the game, or downloaded game that you wish to load and play.
The Acekard 2i DSi version functions and works much like any other NDS Flash card, with some extra features. The loading time on many of the games or applications on the Acekard 2i is noticeably shorter than competing cards. Thats one of the things owners of the Acekard DSi version notice right away if theyve played around with any other cards.
The real magic in the Acekard 2i DSi version however is the frequency of the firmware updates. The firmware is what determines what will work and will be compatible with the Acekard 2i – and what wont. Having a company stand behind their product is key when youre into homebrew games. Without constant firmware updates, the Acekard 2i NDS Card would not be what it is. Its the constant updates that guarantee that the Acekard 2i will be compatible with whatever file or media you throw at it.
Now before we get ahead of ourselves, you’ll need to download the Acekard 2i firmware, or menu system, in order for your Nintendo DSi to recognize the Acekard 2i. Without the firmware files, your Nintendo DSi won’t even know you have the card inserted. As the instructions will tell you, you need to head on over to the Acekard website and download the latest loader files. These are basically the carts operating system. Without them the cart will not work.
Download the latest version of the Firmware files and extract the files to the root of the micro SD card. You’ll now have the following file and folder on the root of your micro SD card:
akmenu4.nds (file)
__ak2 (folder)
After you’ve put the firmware files on to the Acekard 2i, it’s time to fill up your microSD card with the homebrew, games and applications, movies, music or eBooks that you want to carry around with you and start playing on your Acekard and Nintendo DSi.
All that’s left to do once you’ve copied all of your files on the microSD is to put the microSD card into the Acekard 2i microSD slot, and put the Acekard into your Nintendo DS or DSi, and power up you hand held – that has suddenly been transformed from just a game playing machine, to a multi media system. The Acekard 2i shows up as a standard icon and you simply tap on it with your finger or your Stylus, and the Acekard 2i Menu will immediately be loaded up.
Once on the main menu of the Acekard 2i, you’ll be greeted by a bouncing MicroSD card, prompting you to select it, and on the card should be all of your games, movies, music and apps, etc… Which will be displayed in a list format for you to be able to see the files, and quickly select them. You can scroll through your list of files and media by using the control pad or using your finger or stylus as well. Loading your files is as easy as either pressing the A button or double clicking on the file you want to load with your finger or the stylus.
