Can The R4 3DS Brick Your Nintendo 3DS?

We hope to address some of the concerns out there from people reading the latest rumours and blogs online about the R4 3DS and its ability to brick your Nintendo 3DS system.  While this topic has received quite a bit of press and talk from game boards and forums, the short and quick answer to this questions is a big fat NO!  Neither the R4 3DS or the R4i 3DS is capable in any way of bricking your Nintendo 3DS system.  There are tens of thousands of these cards already in use by 3DS owners, and there has not been even a single instance where the card has bricked, damaged or hurt the Nintendo 3DS system in any way at all.

In reality talk of bricking consoles systems is not new.Even back when the DSi was released with new system updates planned for release every 6-8 months, there were plenty of blogs talking about how the R4i cards would brick the DSi or the DSi Xl.  All of them proved to be false of course.There has not been – nor will there be – any reports of the cards bricking the game systems.

What has happened? New system or firmware updates to the game consoles themselves have sometimes, for a very brief period, made the use of the R4i cards and others impossible.This was not a case of bricking,it was simply that the new system updated would not detect the r4i cards when they were inserted into the console.  Now,with regular firmware updates, these issues,if we can even call them issues don’t happen with each and every updated that the DSi receives,and they rarely last longer than a few days to a couple of weeks until a new firmware is released for the R4i cards.

Keep in mind though that this issue can be bypassed completely simply by NOT updated the system software UNTIL a compatible firmware is released in the first place.

To sum it all up, the chances of your Nintendo 3DS being bricked by an R4 3DS are absolutely zero.But don’t take our word for it.There are plenty of reputable DS scene sites that have confirmed the same thing in numerous blog posts and forum threads, written by people who own an R4 3DS or an R4i Card for the DSi and have experienced these updates.
