R4 3DS MSX / MSX2 Emulator has been updated to 0.94

Ever wanted relive the old school classic of system of MSX and MSX2 ? now is your chance to do so with this updated version of msxDS ! Of Course you would need your R4 3DS Flash Card Handy with you as always. your NDS system and memory card and you're ready to pick out your favorite games from various sites.  The MSX and MSX 2 were the very first computers of their time that truly were universal.  Funded in part by MicroSoft, the MSX operating sustem was actually what we like to think of as an earlier version of Windows itself.  It didn't matter which manufacturer you went with, if you had an MSX or MSX2, you would have access to, and be able to play, all of the games released for the platform.  This sounds very console-ish, doesn't it.  Or perhaps, a lot like Windows, where you can pick and choose the brand you want, knowing full well that no matter which PC you buy, your apps, games and programs will work on it, as they all run under Windows.
It was actually quite a novel idea to be honest.  At a time where everything was system specific.  NES games only worked on the NES.  If you had an Atari computer, you could only run games made for the Atari, and so on.  A true look at what the vision was from MicroSoft, well before Windows was the big monster or universal operating systems that it is now.

If you have never tried MSX and MSX2 systems before here are some of the titles to get you started.  You'll notice that a lot of the games are huge arcade hits, and many of them have turned in to major franchises even on todays current generation console systems.  In fact, a lot of the games for the MSX, like Metal Gear, 1942, etc... All ended up becoming huge hits that have spawned sequels and new updates and entire game franchises built around them.  One could argue that all of the best games first came out for the MSX system.
  • 1942 (Arcade Classic Shooter)
  • A-Train (Train Simulator)
  • Akanoid 2 (Puzzle/Shooter)
  • Lupin 3rd (Popular Japanese Anime Action)
  • Bubble Bobble (Tatio Famous Puzzle)
  • Daisenryaku (Japanese Strategy)
  • Dragon Quest 1 & 2 (Square earlier JRPG)
  • Dragon Slayer 4 (i think we all know this one)
  • Ikari (SNK NeoGeo Top-down Shooter)
  • Contra (side-scroll shooter)

The actual total of games that were made for the MSX and MSX 2 systems are well over 500+ , and now thanks the to author of this amazing emulator of msxDS we can all enjoy this amazing collections of epic gaming right on our DS, DSi and Nintendo 3DS consoles.  A step back in time if you will, to the older days of gaming.  What these games lacked in 3D rendered landscapes and the fancy graphics of todays consoles and computers, they made up for with amazing gameplay and unique and original games.  And that's something we don't see very much of these days.
